Primrose Woodlanders
There are so many ways you can volunteer in the woods, so why not give it a go? All you need is a sturdy pair of shoes or boots and some work gloves to protect your hands.
Weather permitting, we gather together every Friday and Sunday morning. As Primrose Woodlanders, we’re a friendly group, so we make time for a break and chat over flasks of tea and coffee.
We welcome all ages and abilities. Primrose Woodlanders Sunday group is popular with Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze and Silver candidates who enjoy learning about tree identification and woodland management from our more experienced Woodlanders.
We offer a woodland training programme for those interested to develop more advanced skills in woodland management.

Seasonal work
After 25 years, our woodland is developing a character of its own and we’re nurturing a wide range of thriving habitats.
As Woodlanders, we work to the rhythm of the seasons. The wild flower surveys start in early Spring while dealing with bindweed is left till April. The tree thinning programme is carried out between September and March, away from bird nesting season.

Friday Woodlanders
Fridays we’re busy cultivating the woodland, typical jobs include cutting back vegetation along the paths, caring for the new saplings or moving logs.
Sunday Woodlanders
On Sundays we’re typically felling and log moving because our trees are maturing and need more space so we are selectively removing the weaker ones. The chainsaw operators are all qualified
